    I do disagree that computers are conscious/aware. I think they are utterly unconscious ... which, in a way, makes their dominance still creepier.

    The ideas your write are in stark contrast to the work of another great fiction writer: William Gibson. In his writing computers are of a more organic structure that is a symbiotic existence that runs parallel to the natural world. And most crucially, key to his writing and the ethos of his work, is the principal that 'information wants to be free'.
